The Juliet’s Grand Opening: A Whimsical Wonderland
In late August of 2022, we stumbled upon a beautiful space that used to be a photography studio; white washed walls, modern light fixtures, beautiful arched windows, a full kitchen, ballroom and a suite that they called an office. As a planner, my dream was to have a small venue for my planning clients along with a venue to host beautiful intimate weddings, events and gatherings. This space didn’t let us get further than our cars upon leaving before we started brainstorming the future of At Ease Events KC and our new home.
History of The Juliet:
The Juliet is extra special because the space used to be Mr. Luziers private apartment back in the 1920s and his retail space was where Hand and Land is now. There was even a pulley elevator in the middle of the space (now sealed). In 1928 Luzier hired Nelle Peters, a female architect to unify the two buildings together which is the facade that you see today.
This building sat vacant since 1999, when the owners bought it and got it on the Historical Registry to receive the tax credits to rehab the space.
In 2019, Samantha Levi obtained the space as a scared space for community and education. Samantha believes in the historical preservation and preserved the integrity of the space while also allowing for modern light fixtures to give the its own modern day personal aesthetic
In 2022, Laura Clark, owner and lead planner of At Ease Events KC, LLC discovered this beautiful space to share not only with her planning clients, but to share with the Kansas City Community as a small luxury event space!
The Theme: Whimsical Wonderland
Upon our announcement of our new endeavor, a good friend and photographer, Samantha Jacob Photography, reached out about collaborating for a styled shoot when she was back in Kansas City next, which just so happened to during our projected grand opening. So we thought, why not leave the styled shoot set up for our Grand Opening Open House!? Upon brainstorming, we wanted to highlight trending elements, as well as our own ascetics of untraditional. Fun fact, Samantha was my wedding photographer, and we were announced into our reception on power wheels! Anywho, we came to the styled shoot concept of Whimsical Wonderland. Imagine if The Mad Hatter attended a Bridgerton Tea Party or vise-versa.
Next: Our Dream Vendor Team!
Our Vendor Dream Team:
During our brainstorming call, we were able to immediately think of prefect vendors to bring this vision to life including: Rustic Elegance Event Rentals, High Vibe Bridal, ULAH! Many other components feel into place perfectly as well including Marigold Cakes, by Sadie Rose Stationary Design, our wonderful models, hair and make-up artists and even charcuterie. We knew right away that our biggest obstacle during the busiest wedding month of the year, October, was going to be floral, especially with all of the moss involved. After reaching out to a few dozen local Kanas City florist, Lexi with Love, Lilac Floral Design was onboard to complete this whimsically elegant tea party!
Day of the Shoot:
When I say each one of these vendors BLEW me away with their work… I was in awe.
